Set-up of relief base awaits fund

The Industry Ministry is waiting for Bt50 million from the Budget Bureau to set up a flood-relief base in Ayutthaya's Bang Pa-in district so that 112 factories can fill back orders.

“I’m hopeful that the budget can be spent next week so the Industry Ministry can run the project promptly,” Minister Wannarat Charnnukul said yesterday.
The ministry has agreed to lease vacant land from an individual for the facility, which will offer 20,000 square metres of outdoor space and 8,000sqm of indoor space.
Wannarat said 112 manufacturers in Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani had told the ministry that they needed temporary locations to make products and deliver them to customers on time.
The ministry is confident that the site it has secured from the individual is sufficient for the 112 companies.
The ministry has arranged for five temporary manufacturing centres – two in Bangkok and one each in Khon Kaen, Suphan Buri and Chon Buri.
Now seven companies are operating at these five centres, including Single Point Parts, a supplier of parts for many carmakers such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi, and Narai Intertrade, the manufacturer of NaRaYa handbags.
Permanent secretary Witoon Simachokedee said 2,230 manufacturers affected by flooding had registered for aid from the ministry, of which 685 had received initial aid and 78 are under rehabilitation.
