Microsoft backs continuity

Microsoft has announced new business continuity plan solutions, expecting to make available software as a service in April.

Birathon Kasemsri Na Ayudhaya, managing director of Microsoft Thailand, said the company had devised the solutions to help businesses recover from natural disasters such as last year’s flood. The solutions will come in three categories: teleworking, energy and cost saving, and data protection and virtualisation.

The teleworking category comes with various Microsoft environments such as Lync Server 2010, which allows employees to work from anywhere at any time by accessing the corporate network for data and applications, communication via e-mail, and conference calls.
In the energy- and cost-saving category, the solutions can help companies manage their overall information-technology system effectively to consume less energy.
Last, the data protection and virtualisation category will enable proper management of IT systems at times of crisis through duplication of data to a new location and then restoring the original system.

The firm expects the price of the service will start at around Bt1,000.
“I think that the solutions are very important for businesses, since they can ensure that they are able to continue operating smoothly during times of crisis,” Birathon said.
He said the business-continuity plan would leverage the nine out of 10 personal computers that run on the Windows platform and are able to use the existing Microsoft environment with efficiency and productivity.
"Microsoft is now ready to offer a business-continuity plan for small and medium-sized businesses and public-sector organisations with its portfolio of a wide range of products and solutions for businesses to stay competitive at all times and recover rapidly in times of natural calamities.
