Prapat, former governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, said that the rail development process has been terribly slow, particularly because of top-level changes which lead to discontinuity in policy and implementation.
He added that as such the government should complete all the routes within its term, or 3 years and a half from now. All parties involved should cooperate for success.
He noted that if the development process remains this slow, when Thailand becomes part of the Asean Economic Community in 2015 it could face greater competition from Burma as well as Vietnam.
