Post-flood measures boost confidence

Thailand's consumer confidence index in January rose for two consecutive months, thanks chiefly to government and financial institutions' measures to help relieve flood impacts, according to a survey.

The lower interest rate and increasing salary of civil servants are also cited as posive factors in the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (CCI)'s survey.
The Thai Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) rose from 73.1 points in December to 74.2 last month.
Other positive factors that contributed to this rising confidence included positive outlook for this year's economic growth However, rising oil price and cost of living were named as negative factors to affect confidence in the following month, said Thanavath Phonvichai, director of the UTCC's Economic and Forecasting Centre.
