Thai Plywood is a business venture of the Forest Industry Organisation.
Prasong Poontaneat, director-general of the State Enterprise Policy Office, said after the meeting on Thursday that in the dissolution process, Thai Plywood's 32,000-rai forest area would be transferred to the Forest Industry organisation. Its 50-rai land plot in Bangkok would also be sold to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration for Bt700 million, and the amount would be used to repay the accumulated debt.
He said that the Forest Industry Organisation should submit the Cabinet next week the estimated amount of budget to oversee the forest.
"Any inefficient enterprises, which could not compete against private players, could risk dissolution, unless they accumulate losses from public services," he said.
Currently, five enterprises are showing losses. The Marketing Organisation of Thailand and the Public Warehouse Organisation are expected to submit the rehabilitation plans to the Commerce Ministry in March. The Marketing Organisation for Farmers is adjusting its role. The Fish Marketing Organisation is in the middle of acquiring a land plot to develop Bangkok fish market. The plan is under the National Economic and Social Development Board’s review. Last, the Dairy Farming Promotion Organisation of Thailand is revising its financial targets and business plans for 2012.
