Thailand may decline World Bank's loan offer

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong said on Wednesday that Thailand may decline a loan offer from the World Bank, thanks to international reserves, brisk export income and funds from low-interest bonds.

He said that during a meeting with World Bank representatives, Thailand was offered an unconditional US$1 billion (Bt30 billion) loan to finance economic management.
The offer stands until May. If Thailand does not take the loan, the World Bank would extend the offer to other countries.
Kittiratt on the day also welcomed representatives from the International Monetary Fund to his office. The IMF asked him on the government's policies on minimum wage and agricultural crops prices, budget deficits, as well as post-flood investment.
