“This is a first for the retail sector, under our community promise to ‘buy and sell goods responsibly’," said Charkrit Direkwattanachai, senior corporate affairs manager, Public Affairs at Tesco Lotus.
The competition is open to current Tesco Lotus vendors and non-vendors.
The retailer aims to give appreciation to entrepreneurs and create trust for them with their business standards certified by Sasin Institute of Business Administration, Chulalongkorn University. This will also give an opportunity for entrepreneurs to give their businesses a health check on strong and weak points to enable corrective development plans. SMEs will also receive additional opportunities to do business with Tesco Lotus and at the international level.
It is estimated that the 500,000 SMEs nationwide which employ about 3 million workers are now selling products to 20,000 buyers.
The awards are in 6 main areas considered key to sustainable business success:
- Excellence Growth Awards
- Excellence Innovation Awards
- Excellence Quality Control Awards
- Excellence Green Awards
- Excellence Product Design Awards
- Excellence Employee Awards
Former Bank of Thailand Governor MR Pridyathorn Devakul will chair the judging panel alongside Sasin’s faculty and outside judges to ensure impartiality.
“The Business Excellence Awards will benefit all parties, and particularly SME entrepreneurs, in developing their businesses and becoming better known,” concluded Khun Charkrit.
Applications have been open since January and will continue to the end of February 2012. The application form is available on the website www.beathailand.com.
