The job market this year is expected to continue the trends from 2011, with talent retention likely to be a key consideration for employers.
Renewed foreign investment in agriculture and energy is likely to lead to the creation of jobs as companies continue to move away from traditional distributor models, particularly companies involved in fertiliser, seed, fisheries and rice cultivation.
With Thailand positioning itself as an investment hub, coupled with the growth of the Asean Economic Community, which is scheduled to be completed by 2015, hiring activity is set to remain strong.
The job market was dynamic last year with notable hiring activity across all industries – a trend not seen in previous years, according to an annual global salary survey launched yesterday by Robert Walters, one of the world’s leading specialist professional recruitment consultancies.
The survey also showed that there was growth within the agriculture and energy sectors as large multinationals moved away from traditional distributor models and set up hubs in Thailand.
Recruitment was particularly high within the manufacturing and automobile industries, especially for sales and marketing professionals at the mid-to-senior level. These professionals were needed to aid companies in differentiating themselves in an increasingly competitive market.
HIGHER RECRUITMENT LEVELS
According to the survey, the flood in Thailand from end-July to December led to a slight dip in recruitment activity in September and October. However, hiring rebounded strongly in November and December and the year finished on a positive note with higher recruitment levels compared with the lower figures typically seen towards the year-end.
Robert Walters boasts a network of 47 offices spanning 23 countries.
