BBL unveils its "soft loan" programme

Flood-affected small and medium-sized enterprises are eligible to borrow upto Bt30 million from Bangkok Bank, under the loan package which is part of the government's Bt300 billion soft loan scheme.

Individual flood victims are also eligible to the package, which charges only 3 per cent per annum for five years. Applications are open until end-December, or when the allocated amount runs out.
Kasikornbank earlier announced that it allocated Bt32 billion for the scheme. Bangkok Bank did not reveal the exact amount. Under the soft loan scheme, Bank of Thailand is to allocate no more than Bt210 billion and 21 participating banks will allocate at least Bt90 billion.
Suwan Thaensathit, senior executive vice president of the bank, said that individuals can borrow for new home purchases, refinancing, or fixing. Each is entitled upto Bt1 million under the programme and they can obtain  incremental amounts from the bank, under which they will be charged 2.75-3.75 per cent per annum in the first year and MLR minus 0.25 percentage points in the remaining years.
For SMEs, they would be waived from appraisal and borrowing fee.
