No injunction on wage hike

The government has won a preliminary greenlight to raise the minimum wage on April 1, as the Central Administrative Court on Tuesday refused to impose an injunction on the move despite the petition from some companies.

The 23 companies asked for the injunction, saying that the Central Wage Committee resorted to illegitimate approach in raising the minimum wage in seven provinces to Bt300 on April 1.

The court revealed that the Central Wage Committee at the October 17, 2011 meeting took into account factors like the cost of living index, inflation, living standards, manufacturing cost, goods/services cost, productivity, as well as the economic and social condition. The committee also considered the proposals from the sub-committee, which is in charge of wage in all provinces. The sub-committee consisted of representatives from the government, employees and employers.
The Central Wage Committee also considered the opinions from a working committee, chaired by a deputy governor of the Bank of Thailand. The committee also consisted of experts as well as representatives from the government and employees.
The Court considered that the Central Wage Committee followed through the required procedure and did not resort to illegitimate approaches.
