New MD to lead local Hewlett-Packard

Hewlett- Packard (Thailand), which has appointed a former IBM regional general manager as its managing director, is pursuing a strategy to transform its business from an information-technology company into a solutions business under the "One HP" concept

The company expects the move to help it achieve double-digit revenue growth this year.

Having joined the company early in the year, Dhanawat Suthumpun has been officially named the new managing director and director of global sales and enterprise marketing at Hewlett-Packard (Thailand).

The company has also announced the appointment of a new director for HP business.

Dhanawat said HP aimed to empower clients in both the public and private sectors to compete successfully in the single-market environment of the Asean Economic Community, which will be implemented in 2015; expand its focus to cover all major customer segments, such as banking and finance, telecommunications, healthcare and education; and create differentiation and strengthen its business through the One HP proposition so that it can provide its products and services in term of solutions.

The strategy will enable customers to utilise IT solutions in fields such as e-printing and telecoms to enhance their competitiveness, he said.

This year, it will provide HP technologies and solutions to support enterprise such as converged infrastructure, cloud computing, application transformation, enterprise security and hybrid delivery.

Meanwhile, it will provide what he termed a "total customer experience" and create a partnership "ecosystem" to support customers and business partners.

The company will also expand its business upcountry, tying up with local business partners in the second half of the year.

"We think the upcountry market offers high potential growth, as companies and individuals will utilise much more IT to support their businesses and lifestyles. We are focused on providing solutions to support customer demand and requirements. We are also developing human-resource skills in terms of talent development to support our business goal," said the managing director.

The firm is also focusing its business into five areas: hardware, software, services, imaging systems and personal computers.

HP expects to benefit from strong growth this year in hardware, software and services, he said.

Seeing Thailand as having high growth potential for its business, HP plans to invest further in the Kingdom, as well as in Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines, Dhanawat said.

The company expects to undertake its first such expansion move in the second half of this year.

Before joining HP, Dhanawat worked for IBM as general manager of telecommunications in the region. He joined IBM in 1990.
