The cost will be high if the government has to change the law to provide more pensions to members of the Government Pension Fund (GPF), Areepong Bhoocha-oom, permanent secretary for the Finance Ministry, said yesterday.
The Comptroller-General’s Department has submitted cost estimates to former finance ministers for consideration of whether the government has to change the GPF law, as demanded by some members. The cost was as high as Bt100 billion and no government had a clear policy on the proposal.
Some state officials who belong to the GPF will hold a rally today to demand that the GPF and government pay more pensions after they retire.

The Commart Thailand event generated transactions worth over Bt3.2 billion during its four-day run, thanks mainly to notebook computers.
“The overall picture shows clear improvement,” Pathom Indarodom, general manager of ARiP, the event organiser, said yesterday. “This should allow the IT industry to witness a 12-per-cent growth rate as expected.”
Notebooks, including ultrabooks, generated sales of Bt1.8 billion, while the other best-selling items were tablets and smart phones, he said. The event ended on March 25.
