Non-payrolled workers given access to compensation system

The 24.1 million non-payrolled workers are welcomed to join the social security system, with minimum monthly contribution of Bt100, said Labour Minister Phadermchai Sasomsap.

The workers include freelancers, truck drivers, street vendors, house maids, and those working in agricultural farms. They must be aged 15-60 years.
According to the minister, if they apply to join the sytem and pay Bt100 a month, they are entitled to daily compensation of Bt200 for maximum 20 days per year for hospitalisation on work-related injuries and sickness. In case of disability, they will be compensated Bt500-Bt1,000 a month for 15 years. In case of death, the compensation totals Bt20,000.
Should they contribute Bt150 a month, the benefits will include a lump sum retirement fund.
According to the National Statistical Office, about 24.1 million, or 62.3 per cent of 38.7 million people in working age, are working out of the payroll system.
