The State Railway of Thailand's board of directors will soon have to consider the proposed 10 per cent hike in the construction cost for the Red Line project, running from Bang Sue to Rangsit.

The cost at Bt75.55 billion was determined in 2009, said SRT Governor Yuthana Thapcharoen. It will be raised to Bt80.37 billion.
"The increase goes well under the SRT's procurement regulations, which allows the maximum cost increase by 10 per cent. We need to adjust the budget, as it takes more than 4 years to complete the international bidding," he said.
The board's approval remains subjected to the Cabinet's consideration.
