Paiboon passes away

After years of struggling, renowned economist Paiboon Wattanasiritham died of pancreas cancer today, at the age of 71.

His body would be transferred from Chulalongkorn Hospital on April 10 to Wat That Thong for the royal bathing rite on the same day. Religious rites will follow for 7 days (April 10-11 and April 16-20).
 Born in Ayutthaya in 1941, Paiboon finished his degree in economics from Hull University. Married to Khunying Jada Wattanasiritham, he had two children.

In his work life, Paiboon first joined the Bank of Thailand. He had held several key positions, including chief of Government Savings Bank and president of the Stock Exchange of Thailand (1980-1982).

 In 2006, he served the Surayuth government as the minister to the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. He was also ppointed a deputy prime minister in 2007.
