Banknotes worth Bt480 bn available

The Bank of Thailand has reserved banknotes worth a total of Bt480 billion, to cope with massive withdrawals during the Songkran holiday period.
On its web site, the central bank said that the amount is to cope with higher-than-usual demand for cash.
The central bank also expected that banks would withdraw new notes worth Bt64 billion during the period, which is 6.6 per cent higher than last year.
It attributed the increase to the economic improvement.
