Each new branch will cost about Bt40 million and will need at least 2,000 square metres of space in a community mall or real-estate project in a prime area in Greater Bangkok.
The group will present its outlet as the anchor tenant in the property, while the property owner and developer will jointly invest in the store’s construction and design.
“After having experienced a success story in the business model from the Gourmet Market and Food Hall at K Village on Sukhumvit 26 and Terminal 21 on Asoke, we’ll continue to open more supermarkets and food outlets outside our department stores,” senior vice president Paiboon Kanokwattanawan said yesterday.
This year will see three more Gourmet Markets. The first will debut next month at The Promenade in Ram Intra, next to the Fashion Island shopping complex.
The company targets first-year revenue of Bt200 million from this Bt50-million branch.
The last two will be in the Navaminthra and Rama III areas.
The focus of the first phase of the five-year plan is the upscale Gourmet Market supermarket brand aimed at big spenders in urban areas and key tourist destinations such as Phuket, Hua Hin, Pattaya and Chiang Mai.
The second phase will take the Home Fresh Mart brand upcountry.
Last year The Mall’s supermarket and food business brought in about Bt15 billion, or about 30 per cent of its total revenue.
