PTT Group has put 7 facilities in Rayong in a green pilot project, designed jointly by the Industry Ministry and Japan's Department of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO).

Coming under the Area-Wide Pinch Technology Project in Thailand are the gas separation plant; the refinery and aromatics/olefins facilities of PTT Global Chemical; a unit of PTT Utilities; and one each from HMC Polymers and Star Petroleum Refining's refinery.
Sukrit Surabotsopon, senior executive vice president of Petrochemicals & Refining Business Unit at PTT, said that energy efficiency at these facilities would be analysed and new solutions would be designed for maximum use of electricity and steam energy. The project will last in 2 years.
"This will lead to concrete improvement in energy efficiency and help reduce Thailand's greenhouse gas emission as a whole," he said.
He noted that results from these seven facilities would be shared and executed at other facilities of PTT Group and other companies located in industrial estates.
"This is in line with the aim to turn Thailand into the low-carbon society and PTT Group's commitment to be a technologically-advanced and green national oil company," he added.
