Chakraphan cites health problem, not political interference

MCOT Plc yesterday appointed Premkamon Tinnakorn Na Ayutthaya as new acting president, who will replace Chakraphan Yomchinda who submitted the resignation on Wednesday because of his health problems.

After the board meeting late Thursday, Chakrapan revealed that since the appointment as acting president since January 25, he had to work hard on revamping news programmes to boost advertisers' confidence towards Modernine TV. Video news wall and helicopter reporting called “MCOT Bird’s Eyes News” are the major part of the revamp, costing about Bt60 million a year.

“It’s time to take a rest," he said. "Still, I will remain as vice chairman at MCOT."

Chakraphan denied that he was under political influence.

MCOT chairman Sorajak Kasensuvan said that the board understood Chakraphan and was happy with his performance.
The board agreed to appoint Premkamon as new acting president until the president selection process is completed.

Premkramon who is also a director and chairman of the nomination committee said today that due to long holidays in April, the president selection process, which began on April 5, will be delayed. The application deadline is extended from May 15 to end-May. This means the selection process will be completed by July 25, from the original schedule of end-June.
