Possible extension in first-car buyer scheme

The Finance Ministry plans to extend the first-car buyer scheme, when the tax incentive expires at the end of this year.

Deputy Finance Minister Tanusak Lekuthai said that at present, only 10,000 buyers have filed tax claims against the government's target to boost vehicle sale by 500,000 units.
Under the scheme, taxpayers are entitled upto Bt100,000 in tax rebate for first-car purchase.
Tanusak said that the scheme may be extended by 3-4 months because of flood crisis which crippled the automotive industry and dented vehicle demands for months. Another option is to allow all types of buyers to take advantage of the scheme.
