SCC buys cement block plant in Indonesia

Siam Cement Plc's board of directors on Monday approved the Bt1.25 billion acquisition of a lightweight concrete block manufacturing plant in Indonesia.

With the production capacity of 6 million square metres, commercial operation is expected in early 2014, SCC said in a statement to the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
During the past several years, demand of lightweight concrete block in Indonesia has grown at approximately 20 per cent, and this trend is expected to continue over the next five
years. The demand drivers are the vibrant Indonesian construction sector, in addition to the increasing trend to replace bricks with lightweight concrete blocks for labor cost and
construction time saving.
