First lot of 2,000 tablet devices here

The first lot of 2,000 tablet computers under the government's "One Tablet Per Child" project reached Thailand yesterday, while another 100,000 units are expected to be delivered next month.

The Information and Communications Technology Ministry will thoroughly inspect specifications of these 2,000 tablets.

ICT Minister Anudith Nakornthap said yesterday that the inspection was expected to be completed beforeMay 27 Sunday.

If no problem is found, the ministry will advise the Chinese supplier Shenzhen Scope Scientific Development to start producing the tablet devices.

The ICT Ministry will also transfer the first 2,000 tablets that arrived yesterday to the Education Ministry for teacher training.

The ministry on May 10 inked a tablet-computer supply contract with Shenzhen Scope Scientific Development to procure the first lot of 400,000 units, all of which have to be delivered to the Kingdom by early July.

A contract for the remaining 530,000 will be signed later.
