Fly on Corporate Wall

GMM chief |is boxed in

Paiboon Damrongchaitham, chairman of GMM Grammy, has his top priority all set at the moment: Sell the GMM Z cable box. The expectation is that it will generate considerable revenue now that the firm has the rights to live soccer broadcasts.
With the Euro Cup drawing near, Paiboon has little interest in answering questions about anything else. Reporters tested his attention span at a GMM press conference about upcoming matches for Japan’s J-League, asking about rocker Seksan “Sek Loso” Sukpimai’s drug rehabilitation.
Shouldn’t be a problem, Paiboon replied quickly, and then told them to ask music director Kris Thommas instead. “I only concentrate on GMM Z and our cable-TV business now,” he said.
Message understood. Don’t bother the man!

Secret footie

Football fans are of course on full alert since GMM Grammy snared the Euro Cup rights. Free TV will carry much of the action – the matches mainly on Channel 3 and the opening and closing ceremonies on Channels 5 and 9 – but cable-TV subscribers will likely have the best “seats” as long as they buy the GMM Z router box for Bt1,590.
Fans could alternatively buy an old-fashioned analogue antenna to augment the reception of the free TV signal via their existing network, such as TrueVisions. In fact there are several ways to get in on the fun, but it seemed clear early on that the best results would come via GMM Z.
A few hardcore fans remain dubious, though, in Web board forums discussing the wonders of satellite dishes.
They claim there’s no need to buy the GMM Z box to get the signal, but there’s a “conspiracy”, you see: The free-TV channels and GMM Grammy have tried to keep this a secret.
We’ll likely learn the truth long before we find out who really shot JFK. Of course, by the time we solve the mystery, Grammy will have already sold all its set-top boxes.
