Cabinet asked to approve GHB's soft-loan scheme

The Finance Ministry will today ask for the Cabinet's approval for a Bt6 billion borrowing from the Bank of Thailand.

A source from the government said that the soft loan is asked for Government Housing Bank, to assist flood-affected individuals. Under a royal decree implemented early this year, the BOT is allowed to extend soft loans to flood-affected individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises.
Under the decree, the BOT has already extended no more than Bt210 billion to financial institutions, to provide such soft loans. Together with Bt90 billion from them, the soft loan scheme is worth Bt300 billion.
Meanwhile, the Public Health Ministry is also asking for approval on the Bt157 billion budget for the National Health Security Office for the 2013 fiscal year.
