A hundred per cent of jasmine rice set for export met the standards of the Foreign Trade Department during the first four months of this year’s shipments.
Phongphan Chearviriyaphan, deputy director-general of the department, said a total of 630,522 tonnes of jasmine rice in 3,759 shipment lots had been proved to be of high standard, with no contamination.
However, three of 79 samples did not pass DNA tests for jasmine rice, and the department has asked each company to raise the quality of its rice to meet the standard. According to the department, of every 100 grains of rice, 92 should be jasmine rice to qualify for certification as Thai Hom Mali rice.
