Chow Steel Industries expects to conclude a business partnership for joint construction of a second factory worth Bt4 billion by the end of this year.
“The company is negotiating with two to three partners in Thailand and Japan to set up a joint venture for construction of a new factory to serve higher demand for finished steel products and steel wires,” said company executive Anavin Jiratomsiri.
The new factory will have a full capacity of 1 million tonnes of steel. Potential locations are Rayong, Chachoengsao and Samut Prakan.
In the first quarter, Chow posted Bt10.05 million in net profit, down 89.9 per cent from the same period last year because of a lower gross profit margin resulting from the higher cost of scrap iron. Revenue in the third quarter was Bt1.5 billion.
