Export swings back to growth in May

Thailand's export in May swung back to positive growth, with the monthly value of US$29.-3 billion which showed a 7.68 per cent growth from the same period last year, according to the Commerce Ministry.

However, total shipment in the first five months still declined by 1.47 per cent year on year to $92.49 billion, due chiefly to the slump in April.
In May, import value grew 18.2 per cent year on year to $22.67 billion.  Total import value in the first five months was tuned at $102.28 billion, an increase by 11.55 per cent, resulting in trade deficit of $9.79 billion.
The euro zone crisis has been highlighted as a major reason to cast clouds over the Thai export sector, given indirect impacts on China which is now a major exporter to Europe and a major export market of Thailand.
