Channel 3 plans tie-ups to prepare for AEC

Bangkok Entertainment, the operator of Channel 3, plans to exchange television content as well as human resources with seven leading news stations in Asia in a strategic move to prepare for the Asean Economic Community (AEC), which will be fully effective

Surin Krittayaphongphun, vice president for marketing and sales, said overall advertising expenditure on television grew by only 1-2 per cent year on year in the first six months of 2012. Channel 3 performed above the industry average, recording a 6-per-cent increase in advertising revenue in the first half compared with the same period last year. This was mainly due to the strong line-up of its programming, especially news and soap operas, he said.
“Under our marketing plan for the second half of this year, we will focus on making our news and soap-opera content stronger. We will also join forces with seven news agencies in Asia for exchanging content, including China Central Television, Channel 3 and 5 from Cambodia, Laos Star, Central News Agency from Taiwan, and Asahi from Japan,” he said.
Surin said the exchange of programme content as well as human resources would be conducted through four major projects: Asia Connect, Asean Family, New Young Blood, and Backpack Reporter.
There are 14 soap operas that will be broadcast through the second half of this year, accounting for 15-16 per cent of air time. Currently, advertisements during prime time cost Bt480,000 per minute.
