Under the Frequency Allocation Law, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has to post proposed crucial regulations on its homepage for a certain period of time and conduct public hearings on them before publishing them in the Royal Gazette.
However, the NBTC’s telecom committee did not put its regulations requiring all state units to report on their use of their telecom frequencies to a public hearing before publishing them on June 15.
An NBTC source said yesterday that the telecom committee thought that the regulations would have no impact on the public, but the commission’s broadcasting committee held a public hearing on similar regulations for broadcasting frequencies.
The legal committee will present its recommendation on the matter to the NBTC’s meeting next week.
