From August, customers are invited to bring their vehicles to service centres for inspection and parts replacement for free of charge, according to a statement by the company.
Nobuyuki Murahashi, president of Mitsubishi Motors Thailand (MMTh), said that despite no accident involved, this is for the safety of customers.
Murahashi noted that the recall does not affect other Mirage cars, including those that are exported. Mitsubishi recently commenced export of Mirage cars to Brunei and Japan.
Up to date a total of 12,000 Mirage cars have been produced, while 10,300 have been delivered to customers. According to Mitsubishi, pproximately 7,600 cars are suspected to carry the fuel gauge defect.
Mirage is manufactured in Thailand under the eco car programme. Others are Honda Brio, Nissan (Almera and March) and Suzuki Swift.
