PM to focus on logistics at Apec summit

The government will point out Thailand's great "logistics hub" efficiency in the Asean region and its linkages to the Pacific Rim at the leaders' summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation this weekend in Vladivostok, Russia.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will outline the government’s basic infrastructure projects worth US$74 billion (Bt2.3 trillion), focusing on energy, telecommunications and transportation.
This huge investment is designed to create a land bridge not only for Asean but also the Mekong subregion and other continents such as South Asia and Asia-Pacific.
Thailand will emphasise its mission of becoming the world’s food production hub, with the aim of assisting other economies in Asia-Pacific and other regions in case of disaster. Thailand has already worked with other countries to ensure food security.
Yingluck is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with the leaders of Russia, Chile and Malaysia on not only on trade ties but also political issues.
In particular, the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to expand exchanges of cooperative initiatives, as Russia is Thailand’s biggest trading partner in Eastern Europe.
