Greener hotel

The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, recently became part of the "A Starwood Challenge for a Better World" global campaign, with the ambitious - but achievable - goals to reduce its energy and water consumption.

“As our footprint grows, we have an even greater environmental responsibility and one that we share across all Starwood hotels. Each of us has a role in ‘doing the right thing’ to reduce our impact on the environment,” said Charles Jack, general manager.
The campaign was kicked off on the realisation that millions more people are travelling. The campaign has won supports from customers and owners, who become more focused on sustainability and expect the same from hotel operators as their partners. The world is changing in ways that stimulates economic and travel growth in many emerging markets around the world.
Today’s hotel guests, especially the younger ones, are choosing brands that share the same sense of purpose for reducing environmental impact. Looking into the future, meeting and exceeding these expectations is a critical aspect of building brands.
Under the campaign, by 2020, Starwood is set to reduce energy consumption by 30 per cent per available room across all owned, managed and franchised rooms. On the same basis, it will also reduce water consumption by 20 per cent.
The project involves 1,000 Starwood properties in nearly 100 countries.
