Boonthai Kaewkhantee, an executive vice president of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC), said last week that the bank and the Agriculture Ministry do not agree on the rice production for the coming crop year.
The BAAC estimates that farmers would sell about 26 million tonnes of paddy rice to the government and the government would need to set aside Bt405 billion to finance its price-support scheme for the 2012/13 crop year.
However, the Agriculture Ministry does not believe that the rice harvest will be that large.
