However, the Commerce Ministry pointed out that soymilk in UHT (ultra-high-temperature-treated) packs is widely consumed, so its price remains the same. Only the price of “to-go” soymilk in bottles was changed.
Wiboonlasana Ruamraksa, director-general of the Internal Trade Department, said the price of Deksomboon soybean paste would increase by Bt1 per bottle. Vitamilk soymilk will go up by Bt1 to Bt13 per bottle.
That is still lower than the request from producers for a hike of Bt2-Bt3 per bottle, she said.
Producers of fish sauce, which had asked for a price increase, will now hold their prices for the rest of this year since they can continue to control production costs. If costs pressures mount, they will reconsider.
The department will join with local administrations to inspect local producers to gauge their true production costs to help consumers know what the real price should be.
“We try to investigate and survey prices of consumer goods, as they have to be fair for both manufacturers and consumers,” Wiboonlasana said.
