No postponement in wage hike

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong on Wednesday insisted that the government would not postpone the nationwide minimum wage hike.

The government sets to raise minimum wage nationwide to Bt300 a day. Companies, mainly small and medium-sized, have complained that their operating cost would be pushed up. The Federation of Thai Industries recently submitted a formal request for a delay, from Jan 1, 2013.
Kittiratt said that instead the government would look into legal issues which pose obstacles to trade and investment.
