Nation Multimedia Group is setting its sights on revving up revenue by 16.7 per cent to Bt3.5 billion next year on the continued uptrend in advertising.
“The growth momentum should continue into next year, thanks in part to Krungthep Turakij TV, which should contribute more revenue next year. We also plan to launch the Asean One channel in the first quarter. The consolidation of Rawangpai and Mango channels into Kom Chad Leuk TV should also generate new revenue,” Duangkamol Chotana, president of NMG, said yesterday.
This year’s revenue target of Bt3 billion is also 20 per cent above last year’s results.
During the Stock Exchange of Thailand’s Opportunity Day, she said that after its launch in September, KKTV has achieved the monthly ad target of Bt10 million. Next year, it should generate Bt15 million a month. According to Nielsen Thailand, overall ad spending in the first 10 months grew 8.83 per cent to Bt97 billion. Free TV dominated 58 per cent of that.
NMG reported nine-month net profit of Bt136.9 million, up 90 per cent from Bt71.94 million in the same period last year. Duangkamol is looking for a better fourth quarter than last year, when the floods pressured revenue. Earnings this year should improve enough for NMG to pay a dividend, depending on the board.
Print media generates 60 per cent of total revenue, broadcasting 27 per cent and the rest 13 per cent.
Next year, NMG should start realising revenue from its partnership with Eleven Media Group in Myanmar, when a joint publication will be introduced. Both sides are working on legal issues.
The group should recoup its investment in Nation University in 2014. Duangkamol noted that this will take some time for the education business to start generating profit.
At the same event, Adisak Limprungpatanakij, president of NBC, said the company’s profitability remains at a satisfactory level despite the lack of programmes airing on free TV. From the third quarter, ad revenue from free TV plunged from 38 per cent to 5 per cent, but offsetting this was growth in ad revenue from the satellite channel from 32 per cent to 47 per cent.
“We’re still exploring opportunities to produce programmes for free TV and this should be clearer before the end of this year. If we can do that, we see a bigger revenue growth opportunity,” he said.
With cash in hand of about Bt80 million, the company is also ready to join the bidding next year for digital TV rights.
