October export jumps 15.57%

Thailand's export value resumed brisk growth in October, thanks mainly to the low base in the same period last year when key industrial zones and the capital city faced the flood disaster.

According to the Commerce Ministry's data, in the month, value hit US$19.52 billion, jumping by 15.57 per cent from the same period last year. Boosting the growth were comparatively higher exports of automobile, electronics and rice.
Import value jumped 21.61 per cent year on year to $21.99 billion, resulting in trade deficit of $2.46 billion in October alone.
Total shipment in the first 10 months of this year grew by only 0.34 per cent on year to $191.86 billion. Import rose 7.15 per cent to $206.11 billion, causing a large trade deficit of $14.25 billion.
