Ex-Bay exec named country chief for RBS/Thailand

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has appointed Charly Madan, a former executive of Krungsri Group, as country executive and head of international banking for Thailand.

The appointment became effective on December 1. Madan has overall management responsibility for RBS’s markets and international banking businesses in Thailand, which includes debt financing, markets, transaction services and risk management.
As country executive, he will also ensure compliance with regulatory requirements as well as the bank’s own risk policies and procedures.
Madan Menon, RBS’s head of international banking for Asia and the Pacific, said the bank was delighted to welcome Charly Madan. With more than 25 years of banking experience in the Asia-Pacific region, he will be invaluable in driving its strategy to focus on core strengths in fixed income, foreign exchange, debt financing, transaction services and risk management solutions, Menon said.
“His appointment reinforces our commitment to our network in the region and, more important, to our businesses and clients in Thailand,” he said. Madan joins RBS from Bank of Ayudhya, the nation’s fifth-largest bank, where he was head of corporate banking and chairman of Krungsri Factoring. He was also on the board of directors for Krungsri Securities.
He assumed those roles in January 2010 before resigning from Krungsri Group in September.
Before Krungsri, Madan was the country officer for Citibank Vietnam for five years and worked in Citibank Thailand as head of the global relationship banking and financial services group for nine years. He was also with Standard Chartered Bank Thailand for five years.
Pornsanong Tuchinda, a member of the Bank of Ayudhya board of directors, replaced Madan as head of corporate banking on October 1.
