Hans Nielsen, president of LVT, which is listed on the Market for Alternative Investment, said in a filing |with the Stock Exchange of Thailand yesterday that the Wat Bundai Project covered the engineering design, machinery and equipment procurement, and final installation of the closed warehouse and conveying system for coal in Nakhon Luang district.
An important source of energy in cement production, coal is imported from major suppliers such as Indonesia, and the unloading at warehouse |facilities here – normally |done in open air – generates |a lot of dust, which causes |environmental damage to |nearby communities.
The “closed” system effectively prevents such a negative environmental impact.
The project is the first |of its kind in the region, |where most coal handling is |still done in the open. It is a part of SCG’s broader corporate-social-responsibility programme.
Considered a medium-sized facility with 16,000 tonnes’ capacity, work has started and will take nine months to complete.
The latest contract brings LVT’s backlog to about Bt2.5 billion, which is expected to increase to Bt3.2 billion by year-end, Nielsen said.
