Thailand's ODI triples to $12bn

Thailand's overseas direct investment tripled from 2009 to US$12 billion in 2012, underlying Thai companies' thirst for overseas presence, according the Bank of Thailand.

In 2009, the ODI was only $4 billion, said BOT Deputy Governor Pongpen Ruengvirayudh.
She attributed the sharp increase to the greater investment opportunity overseas, particularly to small and medium-sized enterprises in the energy, financial and manufacturing sectors.
She suggested more Thai companies strengthen their presence ahead of the activation of the Asean Economic Community.
