Flu has 'no effect' on CPF

Charoen Pokphand Foods insists that the spread of the bird-flu virus in China and Vietnam has not affected the company's businesses in those countries as it mainly runs feed mills in China while Vietnam focuses on pig and shrimp farms.

Adirek Sripratak, president and chief executive officer of CPF, said yesterday that the avian-influenza outbreak in China had not directly hit the firm’s operations there.
However, the outbreak of the new H7N9 strain of the virus has significantly reduced chicken consumption while encouraging people to eat more pork.
Meanwhile, CPF’s business in Vietnam has also not been affected by the outbreak.
“CPF’s livestock and aquaculture businesses both in Thailand and abroad use world-class technology and standard farm practices, concentrating on food safety as the top priority,” Adirek said.
