Economists bullish on 6-month outlook

Economist confidence in the Thai economic outlook in the next 3-6 months remains strong despite a slight decline, according to a survey by Bangkok University.

In the poll conducted during April 9-19 covering 60 economists from 31 institutions, the confidence index stood at 56.68 points, down 0.07 point from the previous quarter.
While the confidence index in the next three months is 50.85 points, the index for the next six months is 59.61 points as economists expect a spike in public and private investment.
Most economists believed that four of five key economic engines - private consumption, private investment, public spending/public investment and tourism - would function favourably in the next 3-6 months. However, the export sector is expected to remain weak due to weak global demand and baht appreciation.
