While the desktop PC market, which is the key segment for computer-monitor products, continues to show flat growth with around 900,000 sold so far this year, LG aims to increase sales this year to Bt1 billion, or around 220,000 units.
Virat Changtawanon, product manager, IT business, LG Electronics (Thailand), said that this year the company aims to focus on expanding into the market in the provinces. It will increase the numbers of dealers upcountry by 300 outlets to a total of 400 by the end of this year. It has 300 dealers in Bangkok.
“This year we will have 700 outlets nationwide, up from a total of 400 outlets last year. The 300 new outlets will be upcountry, where the market is still growing,” Virat said.
He added that the company also plans to spend Bt300 million on marketing to boost sales.
Half will be spent on marketing campaigns at the outlets to allow customers get direct experience with LG’s IPS technology, which is the key technology for LG monitors.
“Dealers’ outlets are most important for us because more than 80 per cent of computer-monitor sales come from the DIY [do-it-yourself] market segment, while less than 20 per cent come from business-to-business and government projects,” Virat said.
He said LG is currently number two in the market with a 20-per-cent share. It does not aim to be number one in overall market share, but aims to be the market leader in innovative monitor technology with a focus on offering advanced graphics and entertainment solutions. It aims to increase its market share to 25 per cent by the end of 2013.
“This year, we plan to launch six new series of monitors, with a total of 17 models. The three highlighted models are designed to offer the very best features for multitasking, graphic design and entertainment. They are the 29-inch LG IPS Monitor UltraWide with an aspect ratio of 21:9 for Bt19,000, the 27-inch LG IPS Monitor ColorPrime for Bt26,000, and the 23-inch LG IPS Monitor Touch10 for Bt18,900,” Virat said.
