E-commerce by small and medium-sized enterprises is growing very quickly, which is driving Thailand Post’s postal and logistics revenue.
Last year it delivered 82 million pieces to users and is forecasting about 5-per-cent growth this year, said Thailand Post president Anusara Chittmittrapap.
The company targets Bt19 billion revenue this year, up from Bt18.2 billion in 2012, while profit is expected to reach around Bt1.2 billion, up from Bt1.13 billion.
The company has four main sources of revenue: postal services, which generated Bt8.5 billion last year; logistics, at Bt7 billion; retail business, at Bt1.1 billion; and money transfer, with Bt832 million.
Thailand Post plans to set up a subsidiary this year, Thailand Post Logistics, to handle that arm of the business. The new company will have Bt500 million registered capital.
Meanwhile, the company has earmarked Bt1 billion for an early-retirement programme for 270 employees this year. Currently it has about 29,000 employees.
