True aims to start promoting the migration from its 2G-1.8GHz service, True Move, from the CAT Telecom concession contract to its 3G licence-holder, Real Future, in the next few months.
True Move currently has about 17 million subscribers, 6 million of whom Suphachai said he expected to see migrating via mobile-number porting.
Real Future, which holds the 2.1GHz licence, yesterday officially launched its 4G and 3G services under the True Move H brand.
True wants to highlight 4G services as it is the first operator to launch such an offering in Thailand, even though there are currently relatively few mobile devices supporting 4G technology.
However, Suphachai said more 4G devices were coming on to the |market, and that about a million mobile-phone users currently had 4G smart phones.
“We are looking to gain more 4G subscribers from that high-value market segment,” he added.
True, which plans to invest Bt15 billion in 4G and 3G-2.1GHz network expansion this year, has already built 2,000 base stations for 4G, and another 5,000 for 3G, the CEO said.
Earlier, True had spent about Bt20 billion on 13,500 sites for its 3G-850-megahertz service as a reseller for CAT Telecom. Suphachai said True would have the most extensive 4G and 3G network nationwide by year-end, with some 20,000 base stations.
Meanwhile, True yesterday launched a new promotion package for 4G services, starting from Bt699 per month for 300 minutes of calls plus unlimited 3G data services on 4G with a maximum speed at 2 gigabits per second.|
