UK minister to join inaugural bilateral strategic dialogue

Hugo Swire, British minister of state for the Foreign Office, will visit the Kingdom between tomorrow and Tuesday to take part in the Thailand-UK Strategic Dialogue.

During the visit, he will meet with Jullapong Nonsrichai, vice minister for foreign affairs, for the inaugural session of the dialogue, which the two countries agreed to last November.
“I am delighted to officially visit Thailand for the first time and meet my counterpart Jullapong Nonsrichai to discuss Thai-UK relations and key issues of importance to both countries,” Swire said.
“Thailand is a natural partner for the UK. We have great relations, which go back over 400 years. Thailand has vast potential to advance prosperity in the Southeast Asia region. The UK has plenty more to offer, as we are the benchmark for excellence in the sectors most in demand for fast-growing economies: financial services, education, large-scale infrastructure and more,” he said.
During his visit, Swire will meet two deputy prime ministers, Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, as well as Opposition Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva. He will meet representatives of leading British companies in Thailand to discuss further trade and investment opportunities. He will also look at issues affecting British tourists and residents in Thailand, including road safety.
