Mobile phone number switching cost cut

Switching from one mobile phone operator to another would be cheaper, as the switching fee will be lowered from Bt99 to Bt29.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission's telecom committee on Tuesday approved the fee cut, said Korkij Danchaivichit, the commission’s deputy secretary-general.
The new number portability fee will be applicable at all 5 mobile phone operators, effective on July 1, he said.
"The Clearing House proposed a Bt39 fee rate, but based on the NBTC office's calculation, the Bt29 fee should be in place as soon as possible," he said. The Clearing House is also required to report the switching cost to the telecom committee at the end of the year.
The Clearing House is now expanding its switching capacity from 40,000 numbers per day to 300,000, to accommodate the migration from the second generation (2G) to the third generation (3G) service.
