Pongsak picks 2 new PTT board members

Energy Minister Pongsak Ruktapongpisal recently appointed ex-deputy commerce minister Panpree Pahitranukorn and Somchai Sujjapongse, director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO), as directors of the PTT board, a source at the ministry said.

They will replace Customs director-general Benja Louicharoen and PTT chairman Vichet Kasemthongsri, who resigned this week. Both are expected to be given Cabinet posts in the upcoming reshuffle.
Panpree reportedly has close ties with former PM Thaksin Shinawatra as well as with PTT board director Prasert Bunsumpun, who was also PTT CEO.
Meanwhile, Suthep Liamsiricharoen, also PTT board director, said yesterday that the board still had to consider whether it should suspend Pailin Chuchottaworn from his PTT post. He explained that the board was waiting for the results of an investigation conducted by PTT’s Audit Committee, which is chaired by Attorney-General Chulasingh Vasantasingh.
Pongsak said he had nothing to do with the investigation as it is under the purview of the PTT board and that only the board could tell if this case might cause Pailin his job at PTT.
Pailin gave up his post at F&N in May.
