Muang Thai Life focuses on the young and old

INSURANCE IS a business that helps people live both a quality and a smart life when the company shares its benefits with society by way of sustainable corporate social responsibility (CSR), Muang Thai Life Assurance Co CEO Sara Lamsam said.

He added that the life-insurance business had shown strong growth for more than 10 years along with that of the country’s economy, and people had learned its value for long-term sustainably. The market has grown by an average of 10 per cent a year. This business growth has enabled the firm to help improve the lives of disadvantaged people of all ages.
The first priority of the company’s CSR programme is children, focusing on both education and sport.
“Children are the next generation to run our country in the future. When the country has quality children, it will enjoy sustainable growth in the long term,” the chief executive said.
The company provides scholarships for children nationwide.
“We have had a scholarship programme for 24 years,” Sara said.
The company also has a programme to renovate school facilities such as libraries and toilets.
Meanwhile, it has joined with the Stock Exchange of Thailand in the Young Financial Star Award programme that provides knowledge about the insurance and financial businesses for third- and fourth-year university students. It also offers on-site office training to such students.
“All education programmes need to provide the opportunity for children to have long-term quality of life,” he said.
He added that the company tried to provide scholarship up to graduation from school or university because education was the first opportunity for people to stand by themselves in the long term.
The company also supports sports as it helps both children and adults have a healthy life free from drugs. It has set up a soccer clinic to coach people on the technicalities of the game.
“We believe that both education and sport will help the child grow to have both a quality and smart life, to contribute to the manpower to drive the country in the future,” he said.

SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY
Muang Thai Life is also concerned about older people who retire from their jobs but continue to have the energy to work.
As a result the company has a social programme to support older people who want to work for their community.
It has set up a working group on learning how to make community products and market them.
“We support them by ordering premium products to be gifts from our company to our customers that are unique and also help the community promote their products to the market,” Sara said.
The programme is designed to help older people sustain themselves while continuing to contribute to their community.
A programme called Muang Thai Yim also helps women and the disadvantaged find jobs that generate income for the long term. This is better than paying money to them if they cannot find a way to generate income by themselves, he said.

ENVIRONMENT AND CULTURE
The environment and culture, including religion, are the next priority in Muang Thai Life’s CSR programme.
Sara said the company supported such activities as growing plants in the forest, building small dams, creating artificial reefs and so on.
Still, he said the company did not do all this by itself but in cooperation with partners.
“All of our activity is not done at one time but we have to follow up and improve every year to create a sustainable society in the long term,” he said.
Muang Thai Life believes that its CSR programme inspires others, both corporates and individuals, who have enough wealth to share with the disadvantaged. This will be the tool to boost the country towards sustainable growth in the long term based on the qualities of its people, he said.
