This growth is mainly driven by a huge demand from 48 new digital terrestrial TV broadcasters who want to use this cutting-edge technology and graphics solutions to produce TV programmes different from others.
Yupapak Tawanna, regional manager of Vizrt Thailand, a leading provider of content production tools for the digital media industry, said that the Thai broadcasting industry was very exciting for the company for the next two years due to the move to digital terrestrial TV broadcasting overseen by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).
“We are in talks with 10 TV broadcasters with high potential who wish to obtain licences to run digital terrestrial TV channels,” Yupapak said.
Vizrt Thailand distributes three key products and services to TV broadcasters in the Kingdom. The first is broadcasting graphics solutions such as virtual sets and immersive graphics, real time 3D animation, weather graphics solutions and social TV. The other two are media asset management tools and multiple platform solutions.
She added that weather graphics solutions, social TV and multiple platform services were increasingly important for local TV broadcasters, both incumbent analog, and new players who are already in the cable and satellite TV business.
“Apart from the upcoming digital terrestrial TV segment, cable and satellite TV operators remain our key clients as their business is still on the rise, she explained.
Given these factors, Vizrt Thailand expects to see 40-50 per cent growth in revenue in
line with growth in this business segment during the next two years, from repeat and new clients.
Although there is no exact figure about the value of this business segment, the Thai Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunication Industries Association estimated that during the move to digital terrestrial TV broadcasting era, business related to broadcasting production, studio solution and media management tools will possibly be worth about Bt10 billion.
Following this trend, Throughwave (Thailand), a leading IT infrastructure service provider, is turning its focus to broadcasting graphics solutions by importing “radical angle” technology.
Supaporn Tiarawut, vice president of marketing at Throughwave (Thailand), said that the technology was a complete virtual broadcast studio platform, which is also a part of Wavify from Silicon Valley in the US.
Supaporn said the company hoped to secure about 4-5 clients both from digital public and commercial TV broadcasters once the digital terrestrial TV broadcast is put in place.
